Digiscoping

My mobile phone digiscoping set-up

I am having good success digiscoping with my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 through my Swarovski ATX65 Spotting Scope. Here is how...

Swarovski sell an adaptor for the iPhone 6 which they describe as a 'Swarovski PA-i Adapter Ring-ATX/STS' (you can buy these for $29 from Bintel in Sydney NSW). If you have an iPhone, buy the available adaptor as well.

If you have an Android, you will have to make you own adaptor with some plastic sheeting, plastic angle and some double-sided tape.

Here are some photos to show you how I did it.

1. The adaptor ring fits snugly over the eyecup of the scope. This will only work with the angled scope, with gravity keeping the phone in its place.

2. The adaptor is placed on the scope's eyecup. You can see the bottom support and left hand side stopper which both act as guides to quickly and easily line the phone's camera lens up with the scope.

3. First focus on the subject (in this case a Sacred Kingfisher had landed on a rope in my backyard, so I managed to open the flywire door and take the photo from inside our loungeroom)

4. Cropped version of the photo...

In time I may make a kit available which will make it relatively easy to assemble the same set-up for any camera phone to fit any ATX or ATS Swarovski Scope. Please email me if you are interested.
