Go With a Qualified Guide

If you are contemplating a guided wildlife tour in the Top End, please be assured that the Northern Territory Government has high standards in place for professional guides. This ensues not only that our visitors will have amazing wildlife encounters, but also that they are kept safe, and that tours are conducted ethically and responsibly.

Operators are required to have the following minimum qualifications and current documentation:-

  • Parks and Wildlife NT Tour Operator License to guide in any national park in the NT (excluding Kakadu and Uluru) Must hold certificate of currency for $10,000,000 public liability insurance
  • Kakadu Tour Operator License to guide in Kakadu and Uluru National Parks (adminstered by Parks Australia) Must hold certificate of currency for $20,000,000 public liability insurance
  • To have completed the Kakadu Knowledge for Tour Guides - SITTGDE009A (Charles Darwin University)

If you are travelling with a guide who does not have these minimum qualifications, you are at risk, no matter the guide's birding skills!

The above does not apply to volunteer guides who are not receiving any renumeration for their services.
